I am going to be making some motion stakes. I can get my hands on plenty of galvanized rod but am worried about a glare or shine off this. I have heard it is quite the process to paint galv. steel so don't really want to go through that.

Any of you ever used glav. rod in the field. Any problems with the way the geese reacted?

Any suggestions on what I can do to get a black surface coat?

Thanks

Use some camo tape, I would think that would do it. If it peels it will leave a sticky residue that will grab dirt so your still safe.

Just my idea

Try using some athletic/gauze like tape...... You wouldn't even have to paint em , just dirty them up with some mud........ Sounds kinda redneckish, but hey, we're all a little redneck sometimes......

Well decided to screw the galv steel. Went and bought hot roll steel (more flex = more motion). They work well even in light wind.

If anyone is looking at the GHG stakes I would suggest looking this direction too. The GHG's are nice but this way you get steel rods to pound into the ground in lieu of fiberglass and their less expensive. $3.26 for a 20ft length of 1/4" hot roll rod.
